Esther Williams

Esther Williams is probably one of the most famous synchronized swimmer and actress! She was known for her glamorous image and all her achievements in life. Her best movie is probably "Million dollar Mermaid". Esther Williams was born in August 1921 in California, and died in 2013 in Los Angeles at the age of 91. Her father was a painter and her mother was a psychologist. Esther Williams was the fifth and youngest child of her family.  She took a job counting towels at the pool to pay the five cent entry fee, and while there, had swimming lessons from a lifeguards. She started  high level competitions really early! But in 1940 she wasn't able to participate to the Summer Olympics because of World War II. After that, she started to appear in small roles in Films, while swimming and competing.Williams made a series of films in the 1940s and early 1950s known as "aquamusicals," which showed elaborate performances with synchronized swimming in

People usually think synchronized swimming doen't have any rules... Well it does! Those rules are written in FINA ( Fédération Internationale de Natation ), there are many different international rules and regulations for synchronized swimming. They can be slightly different depending of the country. First of all, this is a female sport, so men  are not allowed to compete in the Olympics, World Championships, or any other FINA sanctioned events. However, many countries do allow men to participate in their national or local competitions. There are also a variety of international events, such as Opens, that permit male synchronized swimmers to compete alongside and against women. In synchronized swimming you can do many different events such as solo, duet, trio, team, figures, and combination. He spent lots of time swimming in the Atlantic Ocean and discovered the benefits of water exercises on human health... On a trip to London in 1724, he performed manoeuvres in the Thames River that he called “ornamental swimming” for the entertainment of observers. Franklin encouraged people to start to practice this activiry, more and more people did. The first water ballet competition on record was held in Berlin, Germany in 1891, before the sport was actually called “synchronized swimming.” It is after this competition that synchronized swimming stared to be popular in Australia, America, Canada and France.
